What to Expect on Your First Visit

At your child’s first visit, you will be asked to arrive a few minutes early to fill out paper work concerning your child’s medical history and past dental history. If you are transferring from another office, we ask that you bring any recent x-rays that were taken. Dr. Donley will meet with you and your child prior to the visit to review medical history and any concerns that may be present. To orient your child to our colorful office we have games, books, and computer programs. We will count his or her teeth, perform a cleaning, examination, fluoride treatment and if indicated take x-rays of the teeth. We ask that you don’t prepare your child. Let us do all the work!  We will teach both of you how to effectively clean your child’s teeth, review healthy diets and snacking, and how to prevent dental injuries.

If your child has dental anxiety, we do encourage visiting our office prior to the first appointment to meet us and Dr. Donley. Sometimes it is fear of the unknown that causes the most anxiety. We often lend out books about dental visits.

We like Heidi Murkoff's "What to Expect When You Go to the Dentist."

It uses the words and descriptions we use in our offce.

We are happy to lend this book and others out prior to your child's first visit.
