Instructions Following Extractions
1. Have your child bite down on the gauze for 15-20 minutes after leaving the office. If there is still some oozing, bite on a new piece of gauze for twenty more minutes. Avoid taking the gauze pad in and out as this prevents an adequate clot from forming.
2. Today's diet should be soft foods such as pasta, yogurt, and cool liquids. Avoid
drinking through a straw. The sucking on a straw tends to disrupt the clotting in the extraction area.
3. We recommend Children's Tylenol or acetaminophen being taken as soon as your child gets home,
prior to the local anesthetic wearing off. Please follow the recommended dosage and directions on the label. Generally, there is only mild discomfort experienced after extraction of a primary tooth. However, if your child complains of discomfort, Children's Tylenol of acetaminophen is recommended every 4-6 hours as needed.
4. If you have any questions of concerns, please call the office at 978-443-8833.
